PICKERING ROTARY CLUB Nov. 25/1941 "On the evening of Nov. 25, 1941, nineteen men of Pickering and thirteen members of Whitby Rotary Club, held dinner over Herb Monney's store in Pickering to discuss the possibilities of forming a Rotary Club of Pickering. The District Governor, D. McQuarrie of Lindsay, was a guest. After some discussion, it was moved by J. Balsdon and seconded by Ross Murrison, that a Rotary Club be formed in Pickering. All Prospective Members were asked to stand, and sixteen stood up. A motion was made for a closed ballot, to choose seven members to act as directors of the Club. The result of the ballot was as follows: Nov. 25/41. M. Chapman Frank Chapman J. Bannigan C. Sterritt R. Murrison A. R. Irwin It was moved by Mr. McClure and seconded by A. R. Irwin, that the initiation fee for Charter Members be $5.00, and membership fee $10.00 per year, and initiation fee for new members be $l0.00 and $10.00 per year. Motion carried. The seven directors chose by closed ballot the following: J. Bannigan - President C. Sterritt - Vice President A. R. Irwin - Secretary R. A. Murrison -Treasurer Nov. 25/41. It was moved by F. M. Chapman and seconded by C. Sterritt, that we apply, through the Whitby Rotary Club, for Charter night to be held at The Ontario Ladies College in Whitby. A vote of thanks was moved by J. From this humble beginning, the Pickering Rotary Club has, during the past 18 years, spent over $30,000.00 on their community projects, chief of which are, their work with crippled children, hockey and baseball club, scouts and cubs, and donation of the village rink as well as park equipment.
