commend them to work for some practical means for relieving the suffering caused by in temperance in which sane people could join and assist The great cause of suffering is that the drunkard neglects to provide for his family I would take him and put him in gaol and make him work for them rising a whip if necessary I can see no rea son why a mans labor should be lost both to himself and family because he is in gaol On the contrary I see the necessity of teaching everyone to honestly support themselves and fami ly and I see no injustice to the man if they are so compelled to do this for
