the Bank of Canada is to be paid very week for the rest of his life by the Canadian Taxpayer Coyne himself claims he was fired by the government because of the action taken by his board of directors last February in raising his pension from per year to Finance Minister Fleming has denied that the increased pension was the main reason for firing Coyne although he took a dim view of Coynes withholding the Information from the cabinet What is most puzzling about the case is the re luctance of our elected representatives at Ottawa to raise their voices in pro test over this extravagant waste of pub- tic funds and in addition the press of the Dominion has been strangely silent Coyne after looking after his own future with this fabulous pension then publicly accused Canadians generally of their failure to practice thrift He fol lowed this up with repeated attacks upon government financial policies and later issued a fiscal policy of his own creation to end for all time Canadas economic problems Well after all he looked af ter himself first He leaves his post at age He drew a year at the Bank of Can ada That is second only to Donald Gor don of the who gets Our procrastinating Prime Minister Mr gets plus amenities We sure have expensive tastes at Ottawa If Coyne livefl three score years and 10 he will draw in pension half a million dol lars after a mere six years as head of the Bank of Canada The great ship of state Canada can sink with such leaks developing in its hold TREELESS There is a gaping hole in Market Square Newmarket It is the scar left when a proud SOy earold red maple tree uprooted and taken away or wrongly the Town decided to have the tree removed when it was thought that it would interfere with the forthcoming renovations to adjacent police office To be now without the shady tree is bad enough hut to be continuously re minded of what we are missing every time we see the mounds of earth and the open hole shows a lack of tact on somebodys pail The esthetic value of the missing tree has now been exchanged for the practical danger of a flimsily guarded pit One dark night someone may fall in anil break his neck Fill it its side unusable by the children it was meant to serve While last weeks edi torial was directed at the smaller fry with a gentle warning to take with public property we are wondering how small the children are who were husky enough to destroy a heavilybuilt piece of playground equipment Perhaps we are talking to the wrong age group While conservation as a word has come to be applied to our natural it is just as importantly applied to the protection of property It is our belief that conservation both aspects of it is not getting the attention from our young er people that it deserves Ironically the services and resources that seek protec tion under the collective term conserva tion are the very facilities that are being guarded for the future use and enjoy ment of our youth At a conservation meeting the audi ence is invariably comprised of elderly people Certainly these people are inter ested But where is the younger set Conservationist Eric says Con servation at Iea3t in North America is in its infancy It Is a trickle that must become a creek then a river and finally an ocean Such growth cannot be attain ed in our generation but will require the efforts of generations yet unborn Can Youth fulfill a task of this magnitude Mr thinks it can COURTESY Politeness Combined With Kindness Many successful businesses have been built on the sound principle of providing a reliable product or worthwhile service at a fair price It cannot be denied how ever that when such a product or service is marketed in a courteous manner a more pleasant and rewarding experience for all will result People both young and old In all walks of life react favorably to courteous treatment and it costs no more than a little time and effort plus thoughtful on many recent like in such the memories long
