They all wore blue and yellow ribbons, but failed to see any other Wl Members wearing this distinguishing emblem! They thoroughly enjoyed the production, but hasten to add that Picnic Grove Wl has no immediate plans to emulate the Yorkshire ladies in their fundraising efforts! After purchasing postâ€"show refreshments on their way back to Union Station, they boarded their return train at 6:30pm and arrived back in Cornwall at 11pm, tired but thrilled with their long day out. Newington WI Hosts Victorian Lunch On June 14th, St. Luke‘sâ€"Knox Presbyterian Church in Finch was the setting for a Victorian Lunch, served by the ladies of Newington Wl (Eastern Area). The ladies decorated the hall with lovely floral displays, blue hats and items reminiscent of Victorian times. Elaine Hutchinson had the honour of pouring tea from a silver service tea set. The first to be served were the River Rubies Red Hat group, followed by Wl Members from Winchester Wl, Williamsburg Wl, Chesterville WI and Finch Wl. Seven door prizes were won by lucky diners. Everyone enjoyed eating fancy sandwiches and squares while listening to live keyboard music. Pictured (LR) in the front row: Ruby Presley, Shir/eyAitken and Inez Simpson. The cemetery is located outside Hillier Village and began burials in the 1840’s. Their speaker, Michael Korn, provided the group with many stories and pictures, including some very unusual incidents that have occurred over time at this site. After lunch, Michael led the group on a tour of the site. At a special occasion, Life Members Mabel Wright (L) and Jean Alexander (R) unveiled a commemorative plaque, newly installed on the stone entrance gates. This plaque recognizes Hillier Wl’s funding to erect the beautiful stone gates in the 1920’s. Hillier Wl continues to support this site with financial assistance to repair vandalized stones.
