Hamilton Area Hamilton Area WI, in conjunction with the Friends of the Lee, had the pleasure of an afternoon tea with Joyce Holmes on July 10, 2012 at Christ Church Woodburn, in Binbrook. There were 40 W| Members and guests from Walsingham WI, Woodburn WI, Binbrook WI, Stoney Creek Charter WI, Virgil WI, Beamsville WI, Sims Locks WI and Community Builders WI representing Wentworth, Haldimand, Lincoln and Niagara Districts. Joyce Holmes has been a Member of Appley Bridge WI in Lancashire, UK for 41 years. She is a public speaker and has previously spoken to Wl‘s in Canada. Joyce was in Canada presenting a talk on the Queen‘s Diamond Jubilee, and asked to meet with local WI Members for a one hour talk. The first half of Joyce’s presentation consisted of a tribute to the Queen‘s Jubilee where she played original recordings of Queen Elizabeth “‘5 radio and television speeches, music from the Coronation and songs of the times. During the second half, the audience was entertained with the stories of her life as a WI Member in the UK. Joyce presented, for the Erland Lee (Museum) Home, a calendar autographed by the original "Calendar Girls". A wonderful afternoon was enjoyed by all with a great turnout on such short notice. A complimentaw lunch was provided by "Copper Country Foods” and the celebration ended with euchre and cake. The Members of Springmount Bluewater W| (Greyâ€"Bruce Area) celebrated the Branch’s 90th Anniversary in 2011 and recently amalgamated with Kilsyth North Derby WI (Greyâ€"Bruce Area) to carw on their work in Women’s Institute. At the celebration, Members Mae Angelos and June Sparling were both honoured for being the longest-serving active Members of the Branch. Both ladies have V been Members ' for 65 years.
