/"\« CELEBRATING ANNIVERSARIESl â€"x’\. Bethel-Zion WI Bethelâ€"Zion WI (Trent Valley Area) held its ï¬rst meeting on the brisk winter day of January 12, 1912. One hundred years later, over 60 guests, dignitaries and former Members joined in to mark this special anniversary. Congratulations and certiï¬cates were presented from Todd Smith, MPP; Jackie Denyes, City of Belleville; Cecilia Maines, FWIO Area Chair; Helen Thompson, FWIO Board Director; Evelyn Peck, FWIO Presidentâ€"Elect;Jean Wrightman, District President; and also from the ofï¬ce of Daryl Kramp, MP. Mrs. Hazel Tufts and resident poet, Mrs. Jean Sills, were honoured with Life Memberships, having both contributed actively to WI for more than 60 years. Phyllis Tummon, Phyllis Lott, Lois Ray and Betty Sills received 40 and 50 year pins, recognizing their years of service to WI. Also honoured, were Members with morethan 25 years, Sandra Johnston, Cathy Sucee and Susan McConnell. Over the years, the Members have continued to uphold the WI motto of “For Home and Country†through a wide variety of community projects. Absent is Caroline Mulcaster. Mount Brydges WI The 100th Anniversary celebration of Mount Brydges WI (London Area) was held at the Caradoc Community Centre on September 29, 2011. WI displays and memorabilia, Tweedsmuir History Books and scrapbooks were viewed by guests. Greetings and certiï¬cates were brought by Barb Shipley, wife of MP Bev Shipley, MPP Maria Van Bommel, and Joanne Vanderheyden, Warden of Middlesex County and Mayor of Strathroy-Caradoc. Certiï¬cates and donations were received from the Mount Brydges Lions and Lioness Clubs. Various WI dignitaries brought greetings and Middlesex Northwest District President, Marg Harris, pinned 100 year pins on the 16 Members present. Entertainment and music was enjoyed by all. The event closed with lunch, cake, fresh fruit, tea and coffee. The Members of Kirkton WI celebrated their Branch’s 110th Anniversary on February 19, 2012. A yellow carnation corsage with a blue ribbon was worn by each Member. Several displays were made by Members, including ones for FWIO, FWIC, ACWW, History of Our Branch, Farm Safety, What We Do, Quilts, Back 2 Basics and 4-H. Flower vases with the Branch’s imprint were given to each guest at the afternoon Open House. A number of local WI Branches, along with community-minded personnel were in attendance. Cupcakes with yellow icing were served along with tea and punch. A catered dinner for Branch Members and special guests was enjoyed by 26 people to ï¬nish the celebration.
