baCI2basicS The Provincial Board Gets Back 2 Basics! The FWIO Provincial Board met for its spring Board Meeting from April 11th to 13th in Guelph. Following a discussion on the provincial theme, Back2Basics,andthe manyinteresting topics that Branches and Districts are focusing on, the Board decided to get involved too! One topic that stood out was Wellingtonâ€"Halton District’s ROSE Session on "the ruffled scarf”. These beautiful scarves are all the rage right now â€" and they, supposedly, are quite easy to knit! On their downtime, Board Members discovered a yarn shop in Guelph where they bought some yarn and knitting needles. They decided to host their own Back 2 Basics session in their hotel room so that everyone could learn to knit a ruffled scarf. Southern Regional Board Director, Eleanor Williams, finished one scarf on Wednesday evening and made another on Thursday evening! Board Members proved just how easy it is to get Back 2 Basics! Norfolk District On February 20, 2012, Norfolk District(HamiltonArea)ceIebrated the 115th Anniversary of WI with a festive event at Waterford Agricultural Museum. Museum Curator and Norfolk District WI Tweedsmuir Coordinator, Melissa Culver, and staff adorned the newly renovated Museum with WI memorabilia and materials. Books from local Branches were on display. Branches which have disbanded have their records preserved there. A slideshow with pictures of disbanded Branches played on a wall filled with beautiful commemorative quilts. The new Lee cookbooks and calendars were also on sale. Mayor Dennis Travale thanked Members for their many volunteer hours and presented President Marie Dickens with a plaque from the County to mark the 115th Anniversary. Local MP Toby Barrett also brought good wishes for the District’s continuation and recalled fond memories of his mother’s kitchen during the war. She and many Wl’s made jam to be sent to troops. Marie responded to the Mayor and MP and encouraged the group to continue to live Wl’s motto, "For Home and Country." The display was open to the public for the week.
