Photos from the Branch’s Tweedsmuir Histories as well as present day views were used for this project. This area of rapids on the Mississippi River was the scene of over a dozen industries in the late 1800‘s but is now a quiet park area where people love to picnic. The 100 copies of "Blakeney Then and Now” are almost sold out. A plaque with a map showing where the buildings were located was unveiled in the park on November 7, 2010 by Mayor of Mississippi Mills, Al Lunney and Ramsay WI President, Cindy Zorgel. The committee of Marilyn Snedden, Jean Macpherson and Jill Moxley are now working to update the "Leckie’s Corners” slide show (which won the FWIC competition in 1982) and their video, "Letters from Bennie’s Corners,” completed in 1990. All 3 histories will then be available in DVD format on one disc. Pictured (LR) are Marilyn Snedden, Cindy Zorgel, Jill Moxley andJean Macpherson. Kent Centre Women’s Institute Centennial Park The Kent Centre Women’s Institute Centennial Park was established in 1967, twenty years after the Branch formed in 1947. Kent Centre community is located approximately 10 km southeast of Chatham, Ontario and is part of Southwestern Area. Last summer, the ladies made a trip to a local antique shop and afterwards decided to pay a visit to their park for a special photo. Pictured are Peggy Roger, Alice VanOver/oop, Rosemary Zimmer, Elizabeth Barr, Marion Schneider, Helen Jenner, Mary Barr, Winnifred Gillier and Alta Tedford. A Part of History In 2010, the Members of Elder’s Mills WI (Central Area) presented a beautiful plaque to the Black Creek Village in York County. The plaque lists all of the Branches that were originally part of York West District. Although the Branch and District have both recently disbanded, some of the Members have joined other WI Branches in their Area. These ladies would like to encourage other Districts to keep a record of their Branches along with their inception and, when applicable, disbandment dates.
