lum‘thVLQEJ ‘ ’ Tweedsmuir Report ~ By Tweedsmuir Coordinator, Irene Robillard Thank you! As of September 30, 2010, more than 50% of the Districts have responded with the details of their Tweedsmuir Community History collections. Although it has required a lot of effort, especially for the disbanded Branches, it has been worthwhile. Many collections were about to be lost in time. Ifyou are still hunting for a collection or two, one suggestion is to place an ad in your local newspaper. The Ontario Genealogical Society’s eâ€"library is near completion and our Tweedsmuir Community Histories will be part of their initial launch. They have digitized collections from 25 Branches in 3 Areas â€" 4 from London, 11 from Eastern, and 10 from Trent Valley. These are now being reviewed to indicate what should remain private. Most of these collections were digitized while OGS digitized other historical documents. Peterborough was the first official W| site chosen, with about half of their Branches processed in September. The next digitizing should occur in the spring. The annual Tweedsmuir Reports are being revised to reflect changes due to this project. Unfortunately, a revised Tweedsmuir Manual is still outstanding. As this will take time, plans are underway to have the manual and other documents available while in draft mode, to allow Members to provide feedback and be more involved. Formally installed on September 14th, Acorn WI, with 12 formation Members, will continue to build on a foundation laid by others, as do we all. Congratulations Acorn WI! With the invaluable help of Elgin District WI, I was able to attend the International Plowing Match held in St. Thomas for a week, handing out information and promotional material to women wanting to learn more about the Women’s Institute. It was a great opportunity, with access to hundreds of women. I attended the Provincial Board Meeting in August and offered many suggestions to not only encourage new Members but also to revitalize, engage and interest existing Members. I am hopeful some of those suggestions will be implemented in the upcoming months. I have initiated contact with each Area President and membership liaison in the hope offacilitating membership workshops in April and September. This is dependent on my being elected in January 2011, and | ask for your support so I may take some of these initiatives forward. Debbie Bauer can be reached by email at deauer@hurontel.on.ca or by phone at 519â€"529â€"7820. Congratulations to the newly formed Acorn WI! ‘ ‘ Wffielvm’m‘mhfimug‘m 13
