There were no School Fairs when she - was attending Public School but she has exâ€" hibited at the New Liskeard Fall Fairs. In 1949 Pauline represented Temiskaming District at the Canadian National Exhibition. Proof of her progress in club work is seen in the fact ; that she has been an Assistant Club Leader. Pauline also finds time to belong to the Junior Farmer organization. While she has held no office in the club, she has been a delegate to the Northern Junior Farmer Con- ference at Haileybury in 1949 and again at Sault Ste. Marie in 1951. An ardent lover of sports1 Pauline belongs to both the Senior Basketball Team and the Baseball Team at New Liskeard High School. Swimming, cycling and skiing are some of her other favourite sports. Fond 0f camp life, Pauline attended Camp Belwood at Fergus last summer, where she received a Camp Councillor’s degree. She plans to continue that work this summer. Pauline’s interest in sports prompted her desire to become a Physical Education In- structor. When she obtains her Senior Mat- riculation this year, she plans to attend Norâ€" mal School and then possibly continue on to University. The Scholarship money will be used for Normal School expenses. SUMMER 1952 holarship Winners in Homemaking Clubs Introducing Pauline Phillips and Kathleen McLaughlin In a letter to Mrs McCulloch, Secretary- Treasurer of the F.W.I.O., Pauline expressed her appreciation to those who had made such an award possible. She wrote that it had been a great surprise to her, since there are many other girls who qualified for this award. “I assure you, however", Pauline declared, “that it shall be used to its fullest degree”. 4! I! :u Kathleen McLaughlin winner of the second Dorothy Futcher Scholarship, has been an active Homemaking Club member for the past six years. She received her County Honours in the Spring of 1950 and has now completed nine projects. During the past year she was Assistant Leader of her club. Kathleen is a farm girl from Tamworth in Lennox and Addington County and is attendâ€" ing the Tamworth Continuation School. She reports that the school Principal is very much interested in club work and has encouraged the pupils to take part. Time has always been granted without question to allow club mem- bers to take part in any worthwhile activities. In her second year Garden Club, Kathleen started a strawberry patch which was Very successful. She also started raspberries in her third year as a Garden Club member. When Kathleen first became a club member she found it Very difficult to speak in public. Through taking part in Achievement Days and commenting on club exhibits at Belleville and Ottawa Fairs she has gained a great deal of confidence and selfâ€"assurance. This past winter she won the High School Public Speakâ€" ing competition which is a great achievement. Kathleen has been active in her church Young People's group and is a member of her church choir. Last summer She and her sister worked at a summer resort at Fern- leigh. She plans to do this work again this summer. Kathleen plans to attend Normal School next year and University was mentioned for the future. She has done relief teaching for her club Leader this past year. “When I spoke to our Home and SchOol Association last winter about club work", says Kathleen, “I told them the greatest thrill was my trip to Provincial Day at Guelph last Fall. Now I would say that the greatest thrill is winning this Scholarship”. Mrs. McLaughlin (her mother) has led seven of the projects which Kathleen has taken. She is an active Women’s Institute member. Her sister Doris has her County Honours and a younger brother is also in club work, 17
