F. W1. 0. Annual Board Meeting By Ethel McCandless Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario with the prayer ust a: the 60th anniversary, Mrs. James Haggei'ty. President. in her address welcomed the new members to the Board. Retired members were missed. she said, bill the new ones always have a contribu ion to make of their own. A member assumes an important responsibility when elected to the F.W.|.O. Board and she must accept this responsibility. Mrs. Haggerty expressed her appreciation to members of the board for their co-operation and loyalty during the year. Miss Helen McKercher. Director of Home Economics. Es'ension Branch. Ontario Depart» ment of Agriculture, was warmly welcomed by Mrs. Haggcrty who said the co-operation and glad ance of Miss McKercher through the year had been of great assistance to the F.W.I.O. Mrs. Hagger;_v gave an accounting of her stewa ardship for the year. This had entailed much travel and attendance at meetings and functions in connection with the organiza ion. Some of the highlight». were attendance at district anniversaries. a day at the O.A.C.. Guelph, when some of the delegates to the International Congress on Home Economics visited there and later held a picnic at one of the farms. Mrs. Hagger.y attended the Girls‘ Conference in Guelph and brought greetings from the F.W.l.O.: attended the Salada~Shirriffâ€" Horsey tea for the announcement and presentaâ€" tion of the provincial prizes for the Quilt Block Competition. An interesting event was the attendâ€" ance at the dinner of the Almonte Fair Board at the fair where she later gave an address and opened a special display to represent a pioneer village. Area conventions were attended and were all very in'eresting. showing a wide range of ac- tivities. each one different. and this individuality added zest to the meetings. As a member of the Advisory Commit cc of Macdonald Institute she had attended a meeting of this committee. Mrs. Haggerty met with a delegation of Women‘s Institute members who had asked to talk with her in connection with proposed changes in subdivisions as suggested by the Handbook Committee. “The recommendations of the Hand- book Committee have created considerable difï¬- culty and opposition, which has been relayed to mt: by letters and telephone messages," said Mrs. Haggerty. “Life Memberships and revised rulings governing them pose many problems. I have tried to give unbiased opinions and impartial considera- tion to each inquiry." Many kind and appreciative letters have been received by Mrs. Haggerty and she treasures every one, she said. “Being president of the F.W.I.O. is a full-time job. one that opens avenues of experience, opportunities and friendships. and I enjoy every minute of it and learn something new all the time." concluded Mrs. Haggerty.
