P. "71.0. Board Meeting By Mrs. E. V. Thompson N WELCOMENG the members to the Spring I Board Meeting of F.W,I.O., Mrs. L. G. Lymburner. President, thanked the Board Directors for their valued assistance and ex- tended a special welcome to Mrs. Gordon Weech and Mrs. Ester Clement, alternates for Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Humphries who were unable to attend the Board Meeting. Anniversary Projects Great interest has been shown in the Inter- national Scholarship Fund, reported Mrs. Lymburner. Letters have been received from interested persons in Nigeria and British Guiana telling of the need for trained personnel to teach simple skills to the women in newly emerging countries. The Anniversary Year International Scholarship Fund is planned, not to train Home Economists but to assist with the necessary expenses in sending trained Home Economists to areas where help is so badly needed. Working through United Nations it is hoped that it will be possible, by suppleâ€" menting funds for living and travelling. to support the sending of a Home Economist from Ontario. To date $10000. about one fifth of the proposed amount, has been contributed by ï¬ll) branches. Many pledges of support have been received from other branches. Reviewing the 65th Anniversary Luncheon, Mrs. Lymburner announced that a rebate of $400. half the rental, had been received from the C.N.E. because of the unheated condition of the building Where the luncheon was held. It was decided later in the sessions, by a unanimous vote. that this sum be donated to the Anniversary Scholarship Fund. Mrs. Elgin Armstrong voiCCd the appreciation of the Board Directors to the 65th Anniversary Comâ€" mittee. who had planned well for a successful celebration but who were unable to control the weather. Pieces of birthday cake Were sent around the world to all the countries which sent greetings on that day. The top storey of the cake went to Chappell. Nebraska. with Mrs. Haven Smith. World Viceâ€"President, A.C.W.W.. and special speaker at the luncheon. The 65th Anniversary film. which has been made by Mrs. Winnifrcd Hobbs of Port Col- bourne. will be made available at a later date when a second copy has been made. Provincial Secret Treasmer, reported a decrease in member during the past year. There are 36.993 st Women's Institute members and 740 ll‘ members in 1,414 senior branches and junior branches.
