There didn’t appear to be any Indians in the immediate vicinity of the Institute. ' There was something refreshing about th1s Institute and its members. Furnishings for Hoodless Homestead HE ADELAIDE HUNTER HOODLESS I HOMESTEAD at St. George. birthplace of the founder of the Women’s Insti- tute. has been a point of interest to many since its purchase by the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada in 1960. Over two thon- sand visitors, including fortyâ€"seven bus loads and individuals from many countries have registered at the Homestead this year. The Homestead, when its furnishing is com- plcted. will be a replica of a modest rural home of the period when Mrs. Hoodless lived there as a child, nearly a hundred years ago. Already several of the rooms have been com- pletely furnished and the committee is confi- dent the restoration will be completed by l967 â€" this is one of the F.W.I.C. Centennial proj- ects. All articles have been gifts of groups and interested individuals. some of the most prized donated by the Hunter family and now coming back to the old home. The grounds have been landscaped in keep- ing with the character of the home. Two acres of land adjoining the Homestead have been purchased by the South Dumfries Town- ship Council and the F.W.1.C. given the privi- lege of using them as a parkland. in addition to the three acres of the site already OWned by the national organization and utilized for a picnic area. The Homestead is open every afternoon dur- ing the season from 2.00 to 5.00 p.m., and at other times by appointment with the hostess, Mrs. Horace Lockman. St. George. Ontario.
