The birds return with ninth in their throats and a desire to build tor the future. Their nests may have been destroyed but this does not deter them lmm mulling new plans. With thew insurances that spring has ar- rived. the farmer tills the soil and plants seed. While doing this. he is hoping for :1 bountiful honest. HI: knows that unless he makes plans and Works to carry out his plans. he cannot hope to reap that harvest. Is this not the same for each Branch of the Women‘x Institute? The officers make plans for the coming year. ‘I hey plan that every member will participate in the year's pro- gramy. [Each member hat\ a very important purl to plat if the Branch is to have a success» ful year and attain the goal for which it is striving. Have you ever been asked the question. “Is the Women's Institute an educational or a so- Clill organization?" The answer may be similar to that given if a teen-age boy was asked if he likes hamburgers or girls, On both counts. the answer is an unqualified "ch”. No one Could possiny deny that the pleas- me of enjoying a cup of tea with our friends and talking with them keeps many members attending the meetings month after month. But let tn remember that we are at the meetings to learn and to develop skills that will be useful to us now. and in time to come â€" an invest- ment in the future. Eileen i: t i THE BRIDGE BUILDER An old man going a lone highway Came in the evenin cold and gray To a chasm vast an deep and wide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim, The sullen stream had no fears for him But he stopped when safe on the other side And built a bridge to span the tide. "Old man." said a fellow pilgrim near, "You are wasting your strength with building Your journey will end with the ending day. You never again will pass this way. You‘ve crossed the chasm deep and wide. When you build this bridge at evening ride." The builder lifted his old gray head "Good friend, in the path I have come." he sat- "There followerh after me today A youth whose feet must pass this way. This chasm which has been as nought to me To that fair-haired youth might a pitfall be. He, too, must cross in the twilight dim. Good friend.
