Newfoundland Women’s Institute Members Visit Ontario It was a treat and an experience for mem- bers of the Glengarry County Women's Insti- tutes when they had the privilege of being hostesses f0r twelve Women‘s Institute memâ€" bers from the south coast of Newfoundland branches Calvert and Ferrylaud. The Ontario hostesses were Mrs. George Blair. Mrs. Peter Tjepkema, Mrs. John Craig, Mrs. Lloyd Cleland, Mrs. C. H. Rivington, and Mrs. Howard Kemp. Ladies who acted as drivers for the party were Mrs. John Craig, Mrs. E. W. lnnes, and Mrs. H. L. Noblitt. Mrs. Noblitt, a member of the Ontario Provin- cial Board of Directors was responsible for planning the arrangements for entertaining the Newfoundland guests. She was assisted by Mrs. Donald McLachlan. a Director, and Mrs. Hugh McMillan, a past Director. After arrival. the guests were driven to the home of Mrs. H. L. Noblitt for a welcome and tea served by the Gloucester Glen Women‘s Institute. Monday's program included a visit to the Parliament Buildings to attend a session of Parliament and to watch the Changing of the Guard. At noon, the party were guests at a luncheon given by Mrs. Jamieson, for the Fed- erated Women‘s Institutes of Canada. In the afternoon. the main features were a visit to Kingsmere and supper at a Meach Lake cot- tage. courtesy of the Leitrim Women‘s Insti- tute Branch. On Tuesday, a visit was made to Upper Canada Village with lunch served by the Kars Branch and supper, courtesy the Dundas County Women's Institutes. Ramsayville Branch served lunch for the party when they visited the Museum of Sci- ence and Technology on Wednesday, with shopping in the Ottawa stores for the after- noon program. Metcalf and area branch mem- bers had the opportunity to meet the visitors in the evening. Thursday's program consisted of a tour of Ottawa city, lunch at the Experimental Farm, and an evening at the home of Mrs. G. Sharp, 526 Fielding Court. Ottawa. Supper was served by members of the Glen Ogilvie Wom- en's Institutes. Friday saw the end of this exciting (not only tor the Newfoundland ladies but for the On- tario members too) holiday. The guests laden with gifts for their families were loud in their praises for the Ontario hostesses. In a thank you note to Mrs. Austin Zoeller, Ontario Pro- vincial President, one of the guests wrote, “We 26 were treated as royalty and I'm sure we more of Ottawa than some residents have sit in years. We met so many members. It \-. wonderful!" Our East and West Carlton hostesses to so g00d to us. ‘Homes Away From Hon Our drivers were so pleasant and took many. many miles. We all became such gt" friends and enjoyed each others’ comp-an} much. It was a great experience, one we sh never forget, and the most important of . was the friendly kind way of these poop; They took us into their hearts as well as tln homes. We felt we were visiting old friends i stead of new ones. It has strengthened the bond of confedcr. tion and Women’s Institutes to be able to tra el and see people elsewhere who have the san ideals, problems and interests. Our visit to Ottawa shall remain in 0t memory forever. It has enriched our li v greatly. We have gained a wealth of knou edge and a host of new friends.
