President Marion Feldskov presided tor the afternoon session and welcomed guests Mrs. Harvey Houston, Mrs. H. Armstrong, Miss Margaret Myer, Mrs. George Burnside, Miss lean Scott, Mrs. Wm. Miller representing Mrs. Harvey Noblitt, F.W.I.O. president, and Miss Helen McKercher, Director of the Home Eco- nomics Branch. Miss McKercher presented a tall; prepared by Miss Frances Hucks Food Specialist with the Home Economics Branch. Miss Hucks was unable to attend because of illness. The talk had the title “The Changes In Food." Ontario Farm Safety Council Representing F.W.I.O. Mrs. Norman Coul- thard attended the Annual Meeting. February 7, 8 and 9 at the Skyline Hotel in Toronto. The theme was “Noise and You." Objectives for the Council Meeting were (a) Focusing attention on the human and property losses from accidents. (b) Mobilizing effective public support for the reduction of these losses. (0) Encouraging County and District Farm Safety Councils to develop and continue farm accident prevention programs. It was announced that as of April 1, 1972 the Farm Safety Council will be sponsored by the Workmen’s Compensation Board. Wording on highway signs will disappear and drivers will identify the signs by shape and colour. Prize winning posters made by public school children for county and district safety councils were on display. A poster from the Cochrane District won first prize. The Royal Winter Agricultural Fail President Mrs. Noblitt represented F.W.I.O. at meetings concerning the Royal Winter Fair. Her report says that admissions increased again this year, as well as exhibits particularly livestock â€" that a Senior Citizens‘ Day was held for the first time â€" that a parade down Bay Street with the Royal Coach and four and several six in hands proved to be a great ad- vertising feature. Every province except Newfoundland was represented and exhibits were entered from 38 States of The United States of America. Thirty six countries entered slides and prints for comâ€" petitions of the Toronto Camera Club and 6 Aberdeen Angus cattle were purchased by a Scottish breeder. * f i A good book is the best of friends, the same today and forever. International Scholarship Report Mrs. Edward Urstadt, committee chairman presented the following recommendation from the Committee meeting â€" In answer to a let- ter from Miss Isvan requesting that $2000 from the International Scholarship investment be used for training three girls simultaneously in a Normal School in Turkey. The girls to teach later in the villages. This recommenda- tion was accepted. Membership Drive Stressing the need to increase the member- ship in the Women‘s Institute branches Mrs. Noblitt said. "We have a program which ofâ€" fers much to all homemakers whether in rural or urban areas. We must invite our neighbours and see that we offer worthwhile programs to interest new members and keep the old. In- volve the whole family. Keep the husbands inâ€" terested. Entertain husbands and families at a family night. Do a good public relations job â€" advertise. Make it an objective to increase the membership in the Ontario Women’s Insti- tutes by 20% .
