Angele Bourdeau Russell County I thought the theme of the Conference "Guidelines for Today and Tomorrow" was very appropriate and very relevant to our times. It was quite obvious that a great deal of time and thought had gone into the planning of it. One of the most exciting aspects of this con! ference has been meeting girls from all over Ontario. When some of us heard how long the delegates from Rainy River and Thunder Bay had to travel we were bewildered. Learning about how some girls live in Sudbury and many other counties has been interesting. Yet it is surprising how we have more in common than our work in 4-H. Dr. Ethel Chapman gave us a wonderful talk. She was so understanding and interesting. She gave us a great deal of advice and com- mented on problems we face. One comment she made was “Don‘t take a freedom today that will deprive you of a freedom tomorrow.“ There were three interest groups for the conference. Mine was Origami â€" the art of paper folding. Even if you didn‘t do it Well it was fun! Living at the University of Guelph was an experience in itself. It has allowed us to see a little bit of what university life is like. We toured Macdonald Institute and the campus and everyone was very impressed. A panel talked to us about “Career Explora- tions”. Everyone was interested and We were given the opportunity to ask them questions. One of the big stars. of the conference was Mrs. R. C. Moffat with her collection of bells and miniature carillon. She has helped pre- serve part of Canada's domestic history in a Very unique and enjoyable way. Canada is a very beautiful country with many people from many backgrounds. If Ca- nadians from coast-toâ€"coast can live together and understand each other our future will be a much better one. This will be one of the greatest tasks ahead of us as Canadians. The way the girls at the conference have banded together and made the effort to get to know each other makes one confident that future Canadians can do it too. And we 4-H girls should use our experiences at the conference to help us do just that. I know that all the girls are very grateful to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Miss Frances Lampman, Miss Margaret Myer, 14 Mrs. Margaret Woof. and all the other pe0p|._ who have helped to make “Guidelines for To. day and Tomorrow" a wonderful memory to; tomorrow. I chose era! along with 129 other girls who were as inrt ested in it as I was. At these interest grout sessions we learned and talked about Origan which is the art of paper folding. We mac paper elephants, crabs. fish, and birds. th they were completed they were really attr.. tive, I know it sounds stuffy that anycr. could fold paper to form an elephant. but it quite hard. believe me! The weather was mat nificent, very, very warm. The day before i‘ left though there was a cooling shower whit helped a bit. Just looking at the wonderful food at u banquet and all through our stay made r. mouth water. If you want to get fat, the cat teria is the place to do it. There is so much i say about the great time we had here 1 com never write it in one short note. If you err get the chance and invitation to go to a co ference â€" go. You will have a swell time. The theme for our conference, Guidelin: for Today and Tomorrow, was very apprt priate and was very well carried throughor the conference but I felt Dr. Chapman‘s r: marks were extra good. For myself, I found the conference a ver‘ great and wonderful experience.
