An A. C. W. W. Project Indian child eats lunch starved by students at Home Economics Training Centre. The preparation of free meals for needy chiidren provides practical cooking experience for the students and demonstrates the ettectiveness of a balanced diet. The Home Economics Centre at Bhubaneswor, in Orissu State, India, is training young women tor community development work. At the Centre girls learn the basic principles of nutrition and child care, All trainees are required to do practical field work. Upon graduatiOn they will be sent to villages to work with wo- men in Mahila Sarnilis (village women's clubs) organizing such activities as adult literacy classes, lectures on meal preparation and sewing and embroidery lessons. The training of women village workers is part of the government‘s programme to bring Indian women into community life. The government of India is expanding the Centre at Bhudaneswor with the help of the United Nations Children's Fund which is providing stipends for the trainees and equipment for the school.
