The Erland Lee Homestead The Erland Lee Home, RR. 1, Ridge Road, Stoney Creek, Ontario. Dear Institute Members: The Committee has asked me to tell you the happenings since the purchase of the Home on June 15, 1972. We have appreciated very much the groundwork laid by the former Committee. Mrs. Wise and Mrs. Deckinson who worked with each president from 1965 to 1970. Our Committee has received guidance from Miss McKercher, through the Ministry of Agricul- ture and Food, working with the School of Engineering who advise that the Home is structurally sound and has tremendous possi- bilities for preservation. The Agriculture and Horticultural Societies Branch has suggested a long range plan for minor changes and clean- up for the lawns and flower beds on the prop- erty. You remember our telling you the dining room furnishings are quite complete: the sideâ€" board would hold many knickknacks and if you have something suitable We would appre- ciate it if you would tell us about it. The one bedroom has a bed and washstand, while the other has twin beds and a wardrobe. We have enough offers of quilts but we do need mats for the floors. chamber sets, lamps, as well as the little extras that would complete these rooms. The only piece of furniture in the living room is a donated loveseat and a feather pic- ture in a lovely frame. We did purchase the Lee rug which was in this room. You can tell we are in need of many furnishings and are attempting to stay within the 1850 era more or less. We would like a desk, drop-leaf table, other small tables on which to set some vases and dishes; chairs. drapes, lamps. what- not_ corner cupboard, to mention just a few. It is hoped we will be able to have an old- fashioned kitchen, so any iron cooking utensils and kitchen equipment that might make a kitchen complete such as a stove, table. chairs, dishes, etc. are requested. Some of our Branches and Districts have donated money and the Committee will make purchases of needed articles in their name. If you have an article that you might loan us for next summer, let‘s get together and talk. 6 If any individuals or Branches wish to visit the Home this fall, it is open, but only to view a few rooms and reqUests must be sent m advance to the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario office, stating approximate time or arrival and date. We‘ll be writing to you again in the next is. sue of Home and Country. If you have any questions. drop me a line.
