is unfortunate that more women don’t accom- pany the curators to the days‘ instructions and discussions. A sincere thanks to the District Curators who arrange for the workshops» We find many disbanded Branches, former community clubs, senior citizen group-‘3‘ Fm- setting up committees to compile (or continue to compile) the history of local communities Many are working especially along the hneslof genealogy within the communities recording occupations. careers. and other items of inter- est relative to persons past and present of the given community. This. in a material way. often reveals the life and activities of a corn- munity through the years. We find too thls often encourages them to extend their efforts even farther and develop more extensive hisâ€" tory. Again. i am mentioning House Logs. Al- though my first reference to them was in my report in 1960, and they have been stressed more and more these past few years. still we find many curators never having heard of them. Start them now, using a good scribbler chained to a staircase or other staple fixture in the home. They include information re the home throughout the years â€" location. builder. original size. floor plan. year built. and the various family histories of those who have owned it down through the years. It is always left in the home and items of historical note are added by each successive family. Ac- cording to the questionnaires. there are about 10 branches through the Province where these have been started, but usually only 1 or 2 homes at the most in each Branch. So we have a long way to go. Microfilming is coming along much faster than in previous years. With the new location of the Archives. and more equipment, the books are being completed much more quickly. Always remember â€" NOTHING MUST BE ADDED TO A MICROFILMED VOLUME. Another volume must be started to carry on the work after the former volume or volumes have been done. Do not let your books become too cumberâ€" some. Have smaller volumes brought to a cer- tain period of time. have these microfilmed. and continue on in other volumes. Microfilming is the only sure way of perâ€" manent preservation of this valuable material. The microfilms are used extensively by reâ€" members. and therefore material must be au- thentic. dated. and all donors given ample recognition for any data. pictures, etc. which they have given to the Tweedsmuir History. Before volumes are sent in to be micro- filmed, be. sure to number the pages of the Tweedsmutr History and set up a complete Table of Contents. Please notify me when you 18 have volumes ready to be microfilmed __ Mn R. C. Walker, RR. 1, St. George, Ontario Nut: 1N0. This is a free service to the Women‘s ]vr._ stitutes by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculttpe and Food and one for which we are m. . thankful and appreciative. We find that District and Area Curatt, rarely report their work being done annua in their respective Tweedsmuir Histories. N do they tell of their eoâ€"operation or commnr cation with their counterparts. This is a \'e. weak link in our curator set-up in sever parts of the Province. Where District Cur-at show a lack of interest in their Branch Cur tors. and where Area Curators haven‘t wort with their District Curators. we find t thusiasm and progress lacking. District at Area Curators have a lot more responsibili than just presenting a report. Let’s try 1 better two-way communication in the future Seventy-fifth Anniversary Celebrations we mentioned throughout all reports in the Pit ince â€" and doubtless these are being it recorded. May all curators, at Branch, District tl Area, be well rewarded for the tremendous 4 fort and work they are putting forth in p: ducing such marvellous records of their lot communities through the Tweedsmuir lâ€"E lories. and Let us meet the future happily Let‘s not always look behind There are treasures in the days ahead. Watch them closely with an open mind. MY LEGACIES Unto my friends I give my thoughts Unto my Godâ€"my soul, Unto my foes I leave my love This is of lifeâ€"the whole If there be something, a trifle left \Vho shall receive this dower? To my dear Mother Earth a handful of tin Please turn it into a flower. Ed. Nataâ€"The above verse was written by r late Mrs. John Armstrong, then 89 years old, was read at a meeting of the King's For- Women’s Institute Branch as a part of a talk the motto, "Giving a portion of one's self i: sip happiness.” HOME AND COUNTR
