Let Us Not Forget to Be Kind Excerpt from speech by Dr. Irene Spry, Deputy Presi- dent, ACWW to Eastern Area Convention. "Let us not forget to be kind”: This might well be a motto for ACWW. since we and women like us all round the world belong to ACWW so that the ex- change of neighbourly kindness may reach to the four corners of the “global village” that our world has be- come. This is not a “Lady Bountiful" sort of kindness. doled out to the deserving poor from our own superâ€" fluity of afiluence. Mere handâ€"outs are often not kind at all: they may even turn out to be unkind. The kind- ness we try to practise in ACWW is loving kindness among friends who have learned to understand and respect each other and who are working together. each in our own way. to achieve shared objectives. ACWW gives each of us a chance to pool our assets in the really constructive kindness of working with faroffcol- leagues (as well as with those nearer home) in doing our 1365! to help each other to realize our own aims. each in the way that seems to as best. ACWW gives us a chance to contribute whatever we can â€" be it expe- rience, understanding of local needs and conditions. skill. hard work. or cash 7 to the great work of help- ing human beings everywhere to win a better life for themselves. That is why we pay “Pennies for Friend- ship" to make the work of ACWW possible: that is why we contribute to ACWW projects. such as the “Save Sight“ project that is at present opening up such exciting possibilities of preventing needless blindness among millions of children. ACWW gives us an opportunity to “learn to walk in each other’s moccasins so that we may be truly kind with the kindness that members of a team have for each other. How lucky we are to be part of this multi- million ACWW team of women that is playng such an important part in mutual sympathy and kindness in helping to build a better world for everyone all round the world!“ "Do You Remember When?" was the theme of Pine Or- chard Women’s Institute 60th Anniversary celebration. Three charter members were present. Mrs. James Hope played piano as she did at first meeting. Miss Howard McClure and Miss Greets Flinroff assisted at the tea table.
