REPORT â€" JUNIOR WOMEN‘S INSTITUTES Mrs. Frank Skulj We now have 111 members. one new Branch in Wainfleet and another in Peel County. All the Branches have participated in educational and informative programs. Some ofthese include Sewâ€" ing with Knits Courses. Flower-arranging. hair and skin care. Children‘s Aid speakers. cake decorating. candlemaking and its history. fashion shows. summer foods demonstration. Two Branches reported placing exhibits in their fall fairs. Niagara district Branch sponsored bus trips. They also held a card party with a rummage table and flower demonstration to raise funds. The Spring Meeting was hosted by West Lincoln. one of our newer Branches. Included on the day's pro- gram were Ukrainian Egg decorating, cake decorating and slides on cheese. Our Fall Conference was held in Kitchener this year. There were three days Of interesting activities. DISPOSITION OF RESOLUTIONS Nine sustained resolutions and two emergencies were handled from the I972 Area Conventions. Reso- lutions and letters were forwarded to g0vernment. in- dustry or other organizations, We were extremely pleased with the ï¬ne response. in answer to our conâ€" cern requesting the manufacturers to re-design a safer container for one sewing pudding and fruit containers. The Industry took time to answer our questions and sent samples of the new improved containers. There is always an element of disappointment. The resolution concerning invisible polyester thread unra- velling so easily in ready made garments and our request for a change in the ï¬nishing stitch. met with absolutely no response from the Apparel Manufac- turers Council of Canada. Resolutions concerning conservation. recycling. pollution. disposal of garbage. were directed to the proper authorities and the answers and explanations from government ofï¬cials were quite detailed.
