Spring Spruce Up Spruce up for Spring was the theme for the 1976 J.W.I.O. Spring Meeting. Niagara Junior Institute hos~ ted the day at Fonthill, Ontario. Cindy Cordingley, provincial president, welcomed the 60 members and guests to the Semi Annual Meet- tng. Vicki Dunk, a Niagara Junior Institute member and Interior Decorator was the guest speaker for the day. Window Dressing and Bathroom Decor were her topics. Vicki emphasized Colour. Her point was that no matter how much money. time and effort was spent on a room, if the main consideration wasn‘t colour. the end result may be disastrous, Samples of carpets, drapes, bedspreads and bath- room articles were displayed and from these, colour co-ordinated rooms were built. The way one starts to decorate a room is with something you already have and for practical reasons have to keep (carpet) or with something that you have just fallen in love with, (cur- tains, bedspread, towels). By this time the colours have already been laid out for you. A few points mentioned were: I. Don’t let sales people sell you their ideas. 2. Take samples home and try them in their rightful places, both day and night. 3. Don't rush into buying things, build your room gradu- ally and see what is needed. 4. Bathrooms are meant to be used, don’t over dress them. Beverly Brooks, Janet Campbell and Barbara Wat- son of Peel County Junior Institute showed us how to make smocked pillows. The method is simple but the outcome is beautiful. These pillows could easily find a place in any home. During the business meeting, the J.W.I.O. Award Rulings were presented. The $100.00 award is avail« able to any Junior Institute member wishing to further her education. The recipient will be announced at the Annual Meeting. An interest vote was taken on a worthy cauSe to spend some J.W.I.O. money. The final decision will be made at the Annual Meeting in the fall.
