In the Ontario Women‘s Institute Story. there is an informative section on scholarships under provm- cial projects. EXCEPTION There are many scholarships presented at local level by Branch. District or County. The monies are collected. invested. administered and a presentation made by a local committee according to the terms of reference set out by the Branch. District or County. These are not to be confused with scholarships admin- istered by F.W.I.O. Note Would each Branch. County. ENTRANCE AWARDS Established in 1947 during FWIO‘s 50th Anniver- sary Yeariadministered by the University oquelph. A Scholarship Fund was established “in recogniâ€" tion ofthese women who pioneered Women‘s Institute work in Ontario.†This fund known as the “Adelaide Hoodless Me- rnorial Fund“ was set up to collect donations to be used as a scholarship. Also it would provide a method ofï¬nancing the expenses of a pageant “Let There Be Light" which would be the closing number at the 50th Anniversary celebration of FWIO to be held on the Guelph Campus Of OAC on June [3. 1947. However as a tribute to Ontario Women's Insti- tutes the Department of Agriculture underwrote the cost of the pageant and its ï¬lming. It was possible to donate 819000.00 in cash to be invested by OAC to provide scholarships for students entering Macdonald Institute (now Family and Consumer Studies). The interest from the investment was to provide 5 Ontario Women‘s Institute Entrance Scholarships of $100.00 each. to be offered to degree students. This money was an outright gift. and the investing to be- come the responsibility of the College. The Selection Committeeâ€"the Dean of Macdonald Institute. Direc- tor of Home Economics Branch. and President of FWIO. The Scholarships were to be regional with prefer- ence to daughters of Women's Institute members. In 1948 two scholarships of $100.00 each were awarded. However. over the years changes have taken place. as interest accumulates. the number and value of awards vary. It is important for members to understand that the initial amount was given to the University.
