Ministry of Agriculture ind Food. assumed duties March 1. Originally schedâ€" uled to commence February I. but owing to a fall which resulted in a smashed elbow. a postponement was necessary. Although born in Belfast she was only there for three weeks. during which time her father was on busi- ness as a consulting engineer. then they returned to London. England. She was christened Mary after two aunts and a grandmother. however she is known as “Molly” to everyone. She received her primary and elementary educaâ€" tion in London continuing on to Edinburgh University studying Dietetics at the School of Dietetics Departâ€" ment of Medicine. After graduation she continued on at Edinburgh working at the University Medical School as research dietitian for a year. Miss McGhee returned to London to work. During the war it was customary for the Canadian Dietitians to correspond with the British Dietitians and send food parcels as well. In Canada the Dean of Mount Allison University. New Brunswick drew a name from a hat to send a food parcel to one “Molly McGhee". The Dean, Miss Runciman. corresponded for several years and finally persuaded Miss McGhee to come to Canada and work at Mount "A". After two years there, she became chief dietitian at Brockville Hospi- tal. From 1959 through the next six years Miss McGhee led a busy life. continuing her education by commuting to Ottawa and working as chiefdietitian at the Rideau Regional Children‘s Centre, Smiths Falls. As a result she holds a bachelor of science degree in nutrition from Ottawa University. She then decided to switch to psychology. obtained a leave of absence. and received a degree in general psychology from McGill and a Masters in psychology from Carleton, Upon finishing her thesis she consid- ered a job with Statistics Canada. however was per- suaded to consider ujob opportunity at Ccntralia Col- lege as Associate Principal. Miss McGhee nevcr regretted her “change of mind" back to Home Economics. Under her guidance Centraiia became the first accredited school in food services. She says, "i will never forget Centralia, it was u lot of fun and hard work. but rewarding results.“ In her busy life, she loves to cook and entertain and especially likes makingjams and pickles. although she never eats them herself, She tries every recipe she finds appealing. Active in the Ontario Dietetic Association as it liaiâ€" son member. She still finds time for the theatre. travcl. reading and the bullet.
