FWIC COMPETITIONS 1979 â€" 1982 J COMMUNITY HISTORY PRESENTATION In 1945 Lady Tweedsmuir, wife of the then Governor- Genel’al of Canada presented three silver cups to FWIC for competitions to be held each triennium. One of these cups was awarded for the Community History judged to be of the highest excellence in national competition. Due to this rimulus, many Women‘s Institute Branches gathered and ompiled community histories. Indeed, FWIC has gained ecognition and honor because of its encouragement of the ireservation of local histories. The competition for the next tn'ennium 197982 is a "nmmunity History for presentation. ' tBlECTIVES The object of the Twecdsmuir Community History Pre- rntation Competition is to encourage W I members to pre- ~rve materials and documents, and to create a new :venue†ofpresenting the information. EGULATIONS The Tweedsmuir History for Presentation is to be the work of Women's Institute members as a group project. Historical material for this form of presenting a history may include any or all of the following: written material slides and cassettes video tapes transparencies posters and pictures my other means or material to enhance the presentation. This presentation via any media suitable for programs for school, community groups. as an introduction to newcomers into the area or a community information exchange. An index of the order of presentation to be included. This presentation not to exceed forty-ï¬ve minutes. The complete entry should be accommodated in a con- tainer not to exceed 17‘ x 12' in size (Le. small ï¬rm case or soft~sided bag). The winning entry to be presented at I982 Triennial Conference. HOOKED RUG The committee suggests the rug foundation be burlap. . rd the material used for hooking be woollen fabric strips it from discarded clothing or blankets. although new wollen fabrics may be used as supplementary material- REGULATIONS l. The rug is to be made by a group of W I members. 2. The rug should be hooked with woollen fabric strips with a hand rug hook (not a latch hook). It must be original design and color. The size 7 approximately 27" x 36" . Not to be clipped . The edges to be ï¬nished. Rug not to be lined. . Name and address of group and value of rug should be securely attached to back of rug and covered until after judging. 9. Neatness and suitability of the border will be considered imagination and skill in combining colors are a tremen- dous asset in creating exciting hooked rugs. It is hoped that this competition will encourage members to put some time and thought into this subject.
