DETERGENTS WI,S on The GI) A point to keep in mind. when using detergents. there is no relationship between the amount of suds and the olctul- ing power. It is not necessary to have a thick layer oi suds to ensure efficient cleaning. In fact. poor washing results occur in front-loading automatic washers when too much suds are formed. A lowvsudsing detergent is recommended for this type of washer. There is plenty of advertismg about the ingredients and sudsing agent found in detergent. however. basically there are two type of softeners found in detergents. Those that soften water. and those that soften fabrics. But detergent softeningI power can't compare with the job a separate softener will do in the rinse water. Detergent whiteners and brighteners are also present. that make fabric colors more vivid. and help prevent yellowingi and graying. Some detergents contain a mild oX) gen bleach that is safe for all washable fabrics. It appears detergents are quite efficient for cleaning fabrics and will solve most of the problems when washing soiled clothes.
