To- ronto the week of April 27. l98l. She thanked all for their kindness shown to her upon her election last November and wished the Board Directors well during the coming months and looked forward to meeting and discusstng problems with all. Her first official duty after election was to attend Christ- mas at the Lee, since then she has attended meetings on Rural Development Outreach Project Advisory Council at the University of Guelph; the Ontario Conference of Ag- riculture; a seminar dealing with Absentee Foreign Owner- ship of Ontario Farm Lands; Junior Farmers' Annual ban- quet. She has attended all the meetings necessary pertaining to the business of FWIO and has made appearances at Women's Institute functions. INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP Mrs. K. Hiepleh The donation of $4.000 that was sent by FWIO to Ware College in England is helping students from under- developed countries learn about “Child Care“, so they may return to their own countries to teach others. Mrs. Hiepleh reported that Nancy Blaudt‘ast of Sierra Leone, Florence Gwatidzo. Zambia. and Rapa Thakkar from India are taking this course. Nancy has been working at the Child Care Centre in Freetown. which was organized by the Sierra Leone Women‘s Movement with the support of ACWW_ Florence has worked in a hospital in Chinkankarta for over three years, gaining her nursing degree with honors. Rapa has worked with handicapped children and with the prison service. gaining much valuable experience. All the girls are doing extremely well. ACWW MINI CONFERENCE A Conference to be held November 12-14, I981 at the lntemational lnn Winnipeg. will be Open for Northern On- tario members especially, if they wish to attend. Mrs. R.I. Skene, Regional Vice President for Ontario will represent Mrs. Hiepleh. The President will be attending Area Conventions and not free to attend. Those wishing to attend. can contact FWIO office. This Conference will not be subsidized by FWIO. It should be a genuine learning experience about ACWW as well as an opportunity to meet other WI members from Western Canada. TREASURER’S REPORT Mrs. Clifford Ritchie The Treasurer attended to all phases concerning finance for FWIO, including paying any accounts, receiving fees and donations. and making any necessary investments. Fi- nancial statements of the FWIO Scholarship accounts were mailed to the respective chairmen. Mrs. Ritchie was in attendance at all Exewtive. Finance. 85th Anniversary and Constitution Committee meetings. She assisted at Southwestern Day at the Lee. 6 SECRETARY'S REPORT Mrs. Jeanetta VanSickle All correspondence has been completed as well as tht secretarial duties after the Annual Board Meeting. All Committee meetings have been attended including the 85m WI Hall, Finance and Executive meetings. She has completed the tentative preparation of the Con stitution Committee work in preparation for the Semi An nual Meeting. The eligible Federation Representatives have been con [acted for the election of the new Board Directors in th. Fall. Those being elected at the coming District Annual still will be notified. The Secretary assisted at Christmas at the Lee an Southwestern Day. ONTARIO JUNIOR WOMEN’S INSTITUTES Board Directors. Barbara Saari and Nancy Alton Both the Executive and members of the OJWI are bus making many decisions for the Institute Year. A silver plated coffee spoon with the Junior WI crest I being designed and will be available for the first time at th Fall Conference. There will be a Certificate of Merit dc signed with guidelines for nominations set up and approved The "Little Bit More of Everything" is now in its thir printing and selling well. A brochure is being developer and will be available to the members. The Annual Fall Conference will be held October 2-41 the Niagara Area with the theme “Come and Visit Niag ara". The special feature will be the noon luncheon it Saturday when Maureen McTeer will be the guest speaket This particular session will be held at Brock University. The members are presently preparing a new display in the Women's Institute Hall at the Agricultural Museum a Milton. The Junior WI has continued to meet the needs of young women in rural communities. Membership appears to haw been maintained. Programs have been varied and en compass a wide range of interests, i_e.: quilting, visits ti historical sites. community action programs. are only a fcv activities.
