Mary Germain, a branch member ind councillor in Paipoonge Town- hip (Slate River is part of 'aipoonge) suggested a community uilt as a bicentennial project at :1 WI sleeting. Anyone who resided in Slate Liver could buy a quilt block for $1 nd decorate it according to their amily’s background. Later, the locks were sewn together as a wall- nnging. Slate River President Mrs. Nellie ulton, said all 96 blocks were com- leted and returned. Most people gcluded their family name on the lock and embroidered in liquid or 055, what their family does or their imily’s heritage. For instance, a rawberry farmer included berries n the block while a logger featured a uck carrying logs. Mrs. Lois Heald, curator of the aipoonge Museum gratefully ac~ :pted the finished wallâ€"hanging hich will be on display in the ruseum this summer. “I‘m sure it ill generate a lot of interest for any years to come,†said Mrs. said.
