Re â€" Non-refillable soft drink containers This Resolution was forwarded to The Honourable Andrew S. Brandt, Minister of the Environment. Mr. Brandt thanked FWlO for bringing our interest in non-refillable soft drink containers to his attention. He explained that the marketing of soft drinks is a complex issue involv» ing many companies and organiza- tions. The proliferation of the non- refillable soft drink can has created problems within the industry and for the environment. These containers represent only 0.5% of the total residential waste stream produced in Ontario, but form a very visible por- tion ofthe litter found on our streets and highways. His ministry has undertaken to review the current regulations which control the marketing of soft drink containers. Specific proposals are being con- sidered by Cabinet. Until a decision is reached, he is unable to comment further. however, the options of recycling and deposits have been carefully considered. Staff of his ministry will advise FWlO when Cabinet has reached a decision on this matter. 1 also wish to report that copies of the sustained Resolutions were for» warded to Mrs. Emmie Oddie, Chair- man of the Resolutions Committee for the Federated Women‘s Institutes ofCanada.
