information you should know Questions answered re: UNESCO 71 Some questions have arisen recent- ly regarding the channelling of funds raised by ACWW for UNESCO Coupon 71 (Safe Water for All). Here is a paragraph from a letter from Rita Brown, Projects Secretary with ACWW, to Mrs. P. Clute, President, Simcoe District W.l. “We are unable to deal with the general criticisms about UNESCO appointments but we can completely reassure you that all the monies donated to Coupon 71 are used enâ€" tirely as specified. UNESCO transfers the total funds collected to ACWW‘s account, to be used for projects selected by ACWW for supâ€" port. These projects are submitted to us from areas throughout the world and are assessed by the ACWW Proâ€" jects Committee; UNESCO does not impose any restrictions on the allocaâ€" tion of funds but we do keep them completely informed. In this way we encourage continuing fund-raising through the UNESCO Public Liaison Division. Please assure your members that their Welcome donations will not be misused and that they give vital help by providing, clean drinking water and sanitation, thus combating disease." WI signs When driving through t0wns and villages in Ontario, I noticed the ser- vice elub and organization signs mounted on a signboard. However, the Women‘s Institute sign often did not show up as it was generally faded and ofa poorer quality compared to other signs. I decided to look into this and after considerable inquiries, I found out we too could have a bet- ter quality sign of reflective metal. After investigating, I found a com- pany (International Signs, Crumlin Road, London, Ont! whose owner explained that making the first sign is the most expensive because the artâ€" work is prepared. I received a die for the WI crest from Guelph and the company's artist used it to make a Home and Country symbol. This will be used to make reflective metal signs in the WI colors, blue and gold, and would show up well at night. If the signs become faded, a new decal can be added for about $15. In order to obtain the ï¬rst sign the cost would be $300, the second would be $250, the third would be $200 and any others from there on would be $125 each. However, if we had an in- itial order of IO signs, they would cost $I25 each and would be available to any interested Women's Institute at that cost. The Women’s Institutes have acâ€" complished a great deal for Home and Country. We should show we are proud of our Women’s Institute work. 1 have an order for ï¬ve signs to date. and if we can get five more this project would be off the ground and available to all Women’s Institutes in the future.
