Branch News Howick Howick Branch was involved in Howick Township's bicentennial celebrations this summer and at their June meeting, branch members were presented with a certificate of ap- preciation from the Huron County Chapter of the Ontario Heart Foun- dation, Howick canvasses for the foundation during February. Hastings At a recent meeting, a man from the Quinte Association for Children with Learning Disabilities was the guest speaker. He discussed the uniâ€" que problems facing the educators and parents of children with learning problems. Maple Keys A speaker from the Children‘s Aid Society in Stratford came to the June meeting of Maple Keys to discuss communications. JWl members learned how to listen as well as talk to children. At the same meeting, the branch decided to donate $300 to a summer camp for diabetic children near Huntsville. WI VIP dies Mrs. Bess McDermand Skinner. of London, Ontario, former superintenâ€" dent of the Women’s Institutes of Ontario, passed away at St. Mary‘s Hospital, London. on Tuesday. June 26, 1984. She was 90. Born in Port Burwell Dec. 8. 1893, to the late Sydney S. and Frances (Cameron) McDermand, Mrs. Skin- ner had lived in the United States for many years and did extension work with Cornell University. After her retirement she became superintendent of the Women’s Institutes of On- tario. She was a member of Princess Patricia Chapter of the lODE and a member of the Century Club of Guelph University. Mrs. Skinner was a former member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Port Burwell. Her husband, Guy Skinner died previously. She is survived by step» son William W. Skinner of North- ridge, Ca]if.; sister Mrs. Hugh K. (Margaret) Davidson. of London; two grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews, Donations to the Canadian Cancer society or the St. Mary’s palliative care unit would be appreciated.
