fee. The profits from this enterprise go into the treasury of the auxiliary along with the proceeds from the an~ nual spring tea and the family day picnic. A few years later when other senior citizens homes and nursng homes were built many volunteers felt called to help there. Now the Wls from Elgin West are still taking turns at looking after the tuck shop. As well they also help out at the other senior citizen homes in their area. During the past year the Cowal Branch of Elgin West obtained a Bicentennial grant from the province and published their Tweedsmuir History. They were pleasantly sur- prised at how quickly the copies sold. Iona Branch for five years had the same membership-seven active and one nonâ€"active member and with four of those working it fell on the shoulders ol'just three members to do the work. For their Bicentennial pro- ject they had a membership drive. They blitzed the area with letters askv ing local women to come to a special meeting. Many did and already their membership has doubled and is well on its way to tripling. Where once they felt they couldn‘t ask a guest speaker because of their small numbers, now they are having two guest speakers in one month! One of the highiights each year is the winter picnic held in January. To encourage younger members it is now held in the evening. All branches are part of the entertainment. Last year branches had to give a five minute program on their history. This year it was on the future. Some of the pro- grams are serious, some lighthearted but with every branch participating it makes for a great evening. In the coming year Elgin West will be involved in the London Area Day at Erland Lee. FWIC Conference ’85 held in London and the International Plowing Match. For the future Elgin West will continue to work for Home and Country.
