'ghlights from the FWIO Annual Board Meeting The Executive and Board of Directors of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) met for their annual meeting from November 26â€"29, 1991, in Guelph. In her report to the FWIO Board, Peggy Knapp remarked: "To have been President of FWIO at this time in our history has been demanding, fascinating, frustrating, interesting, rewarding, chal- lenging, and an opportunity to serve with a team of exceptional women who conâ€" tinue to give and to share, to plan and to risk, and - always - to move forward." The following includes some of the highlights presented by Board Directors throughout the threeâ€"day agenda: Education Advisory Committee Maxine Innesâ€"Holbrough and Barbara Klages of "Pass it On" are offering a new course this year â€" "Entertaining with a Flair." Some of the recommendations put fonavard by this Committee and passed by the Board included: that the Education Pilot Project be extended for one more year; that local education committees be established with the Board Director as a memberand at least one W1 member from each District; and, that the local Commitâ€" tee be responsible for promotion, coâ€"or- dination and planning of the training school. Erland Lee (Museum) Home This committee has had a pin designed featuring the Museum; and they also plan on having a special item designed to mark the 20th year of ownership of the Lee Home by the FWIO. Tweedsmuir Curator Tweedsmuir Curator Myrtle Stone reported that to update her book she had to ï¬ll in gaps on the following topics: the Erland Lee (Museum) Home; the Women’s institute Hall at the Ontario Agricultural Museum; the FWIC Con- vention in Victoria; FWIO scholarship presentations; and, "Women's Day" at the Royal. She would also like a picture of Betty Piment, the first Executive Secretary and biographies and photos of Peggy Knapp, Hilde Morden and Geral< dine Campbell. Centennial Plans The request for a stamp to honour the 100th anniversary ofthe FWIO is in the hands of the National Philatelic Planning Branch of Canada Post. A rose â€" to be known as the "Laura" Rose â€" is the special project of the Laura Rose Branch in the Waterloo South District, Guelph Area. It is expected to be yellow in colour and introduced at the Royal Winter Fair in 1995 and for sale in 1996. Public Relations Geraldine Campbell, Public Relations Ofï¬cer, reminded all Board Directors, in conjunction with the District and/or Area Officers, are being asked to visit their local MP’S and MPP’s with updated FWIO information. They are also re. quested to give the Warden and repre- sentatives of each County (or District in Northern Ontario) the updated informa- tion, as well as take them on a tour of the Women’s Institute accomplishments in their area. News from FWIC News from Presidentâ€"Elect, Charlotte Johnson, included information that the national convention will be held in Truro, NS, from June 26, 1994. The theme for the triennium is "Today’s Families, Tomorrow’s Future." The Cairine Wil- son essay topic is "A little-known histori- cal event which took place in your own province;" and, the Cultural Competition is a child’s story entitled "There’s a hol< lyhock looking in my window." Also, the four recommendations from FWIC's Child Care Survey are to be studied by each Branch, with recommen- dations and results of discussion to be reported to Board Directors for the March or August Board Meeting.
