Norma received many accolades for her 54 years of volunteer service to her community. For hersell, Norma said, she is trying “to get the hang" at her new computer, which she bought for her 80'h birthday. Solina WI, Durham West Solina Women's Institute held a successful "Rural Ontario Sharing Educa- tion" evening, or BOSE Health Session, last November. Sponsors for the event were Joyce Hancock's Teaching Sewing Centre and Solina WI. Guest speakers Lynn Cuthbert and Christine Gillespie spoke about the detection and screening of breast cancer. This group helps their community in a number of ways by providing tire relief to families in need. giving an annual prize to the Central Manitoutin School Fall Fair, cleaning up part at Highway 52 three time a year under the Adopt-a-Hoad Program and creating lap and baby quilts for the Mindemoya and Little Current Hospitals. Through the compilation and sale of cookbooks this Branch raised $23000 torthe Mindemoya Hospital. And each meeting every member brings a non-perishable food item for the Manitoulin Help Center. Mindemoya WI, Manitoulin East Members ot this Branch recently reviewed their long list 01 accomplishâ€" ments in theircommunity that atlect people‘s lives. They worked to initiate the Meals on Wheels Program and the success of the local hospital has been greatly enhanced by their involvement. The Mindemoya School Fair survives to this day due to their eftons. The Women's Memorial at the Manitoulin District Cenotaph and the creation and maintenance of the local park are largely due to their hard work and donations. Hampstead Wl, Perth Centre This Branch recently held a community meeting with panelists discussing water quality and safety issues. Panelists included Dr. Susan Tamblyn a Perth County Medical Officer of Health. Paul Verkley 7 spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture at the Walkerton Inquiry. Bert Vorstenbosch â€" Chair of the Energy and Environment Committee 01 West Perth and Flobert McTavish â€" Mayor of Perth East. The issues discussed ranged lrom how to keep your water supply safe and what can be done to keep our water sources safe to an analysis of the Walkerton tainted water tragedy and the effect of the new water regulations on municipal governments and Peril.
