Cross Country Calendar Prescott District WI This District proudly placed the Women’s Institute logo in the Historic Vankleek Hill Mural No. 4. In the past year, the District has donated to the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital and Vankleek Hill and Riceville Fairs. And once again District knitters are turning out cuddle bears for the Alzheimer‘s Society. Cusshurn WI, Prescott The Cassburn WI enjoyed a variety of pro. grams in the past year. Speakers have included a 4-H member speaking on the “new” 4-H, a local teacher who told about her experiences working in a foreign counâ€" try, an esthetician, a reflexologist and guest talking about modern banking. Listening to a travelogue of Ireland, creating wooden plaques for spring and touring two homes in the process of being refurbished were also a part of their annual program. The Branch donated to the local Heritage Lodge, 4-H and mental health association, as Well as helping with meals at local fairs and supplying the prizes for bingo night at Heritage Lodge. Ashgrove WI, Hulton The Ashgrove WI proudly presented Presi- dent Verna Bird with a Life Membership. while member Norma Alexander received her S()»Year Pin. "Snowbird 5" Carol Cressman from the Bloomingdale Women's Institute delighted a crowd of 30 at the annual “Snowbirds” get-to-gether held the third Wednesday in February at Sun N'Fun in Sarasota, Florida. She had several pieces of Carnival Ware dishes. as well as Carnival Ware purses andjewellery on display. As well, Gayle Leadbetter from Washago WI had samples of her many unique crafts. Hillsview Wl, Prescott Members from the Hillsview Women's Institute recently visited and learned about alocal business.Diane‘s Shoe WorldThey learned about butterflies at another meeting from guest speaker, Doreen Hotchkiss. They support the District's cuddle bear project for the Alzheimer‘s Society and sponsor a student award for Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute Other Branch activi- ties included a tour of the Experimental Farm and attending the Governor General's Garden Party. lookout Bay WI, Prescott Branch President Nicole Michalchuk shared family traditions and treated mem- bers to Ukrainian cake at their Christmas meeting. Donations were also made to the local food bank at this time. At their January meeting, members viewed Tweedsmuir History books. The group is a proud supporter of the local national historic site, the Macdonell-Williamson House. Lookout Bay members are focusing on health through health walks. eating healthy foods and enjoying fellowship and fun! Plantagenet WI, Prescott Activities of this Branch included a potâ€" luck supper for their husbands and friends, followed by cards and games. Members also enjoy preparing the flowerbeds and hanging baskets for the Pendleton United Church each spring. The group observed wildlife and vegetation at ten different sta~ tions along the Alfred Bog Walkway. And they spread a little cheer to the 60 residents of the Pinecrest Nursing Home in Plantagenet by giving each of them an at» tractive Christmas parcel. Stnrdule WI, Prescott Topics ofdiscussion in the past year at the Stardale Branch included fire safety, the Special Olympics, raising elk and deer, global warming. water pollution and alterâ€" native medicine. Another guest speaker shared her life story as a 1946 British war bride who came to Canada and settled in the Hawkesbury area. The ROSE Health Program, a brainstorming session on fundraising and a sightseeing tour of Merrickville were also part of the group’s annual program. Crowlund WI, Niugoro ROWLAND WOMEN‘S INSTITUTE The Crowland Women's Institute recently erected this community board sign on Schlsler Road in Welland. The sign pro/act was made possible from the proceeds from their anniversary cookbook, Celebrating 90 Years. The cookbooks are still available for 58,- call Kim Sauder at 905-884-2053.
