Cross Country Calendar Perth South District WI mn behalf of Perth South District wr, resident Elaine Thomson expressed con- cerns in the area of health care, education and OMAFRA cutbacks at a recent Politi- cal Awareness Meeting in Perth County. All the commodity groups and organiza- tions within the County were invited to take part and express their concerns to the MP and MPP. The concerns were also printed in The Rural Voice. Hudson WI, l'emislmming South Members of the Hudson WI are proud of their recently published history of Hudson Township. Members spent countless hours researching, pouring over photographs, lis‘ tening to tapes and making phone calls. The Branch is especially grateful to Margaret Arnott for her efforts. SeIwyn WI, Peterhorough Members Della Bell and Isabelle Blewett were presented with 50 Year Pins for their half century of dedication Enniskillen WI, Iumbton Centre qhis Branch had a guided tour of the local McCaw Family Centre and learned about the activities of the YMCA. Members were also involved in 21 Seniors' Information Fair sponsored by the Lambton Seniors' Association and the Scotiabank. In addi- tion to running a beverage and snack booth, members gathered information on a num- ber of topics. including ï¬tness. health. travel, hobbies. retirement living and rec- reation. Huwlrestone WI, Simtoe Kempenfeldt Members from this Branch gathered in front of the Hawkestone United Church to have their photo taken alongside the spruce tree, which the Institute donated as part of their Millennium 2000 Project. They also donated shrubs to the community hall and the Anglican Church. As well, the group has recently purchased a metre of the Oro Medonte Trail and presented an award to the top male and female students at East Oro Public School. Eastern Area WI More than 300 Eastern Area members joined to celebrate the new millennium in the Renfrew Armories. The theme was the Associated Country Women of the World. Twelve countries were represented in dis- plays, a ï¬ve-minute presentation and a fashion show. Fifteen dolls were submitted in the Doll Competition. BIucItstocIr WI, Durham West The Blackstock WI, with the help of the Blackstock Lions Club. hosted an informa- tion night to alert seniors of the growing problem of phone fraud. Ontario Provinâ€" cial Police Detective Gus LaForge, also a member of the special unit known as PHONEBUSTERS. spoke to the group. Salem WI, Duiferin South Two members of this Branch. Betty French and Violet Pearson. were presented with 50 Year Pins for their WI work. Selling pies at the Orangeville Farmer's Market raised $225. which the Branch donated to the Dufferin County Museum. Crowlund WI, Niagara This Branch organized a Spring and Easter Tea last April. The Crowland Central School Choir sang for the group; in return. the Branch gave a $50 donation to the school library. Bridgeport WI, Waterloo The Bridgeport Branch honoured long- time members Errna Drudge and Beatrice Ziegler for 50 years of service to the WT, Adell Bauman for 40 years and Ruby Gillespie for 30 years. Each received the appropriate pins. Recently the Branch dis- played three of their nine Tweedsmuir History Books at the Bridgeport Public School. which was celebrating their SO‘J‘ birthday. The books were also on display at the Bridgeport Free Church and Cemetery Historic Building. For many years, the Woodhouse Branch has participated in the WI Competition at the Norfolk County Fair. This year, the fair competition has adopted the theme "Oh Canada, Everything is Coming Up Red and White. " To get into the spirit of the theme and help plan their display, members took part in a strawberry social and dressed in red and white.
