Big Lake WI, Manitoulin East The Big Lake Wl presented its latest donation of $6000 to the Mindemoya Hospital Renova- tion Project. The 13-member group printed a cookbook last year that has nearly sold out its second printing and enabled a total contribu- tion of 521.000 to the hospital project. Ayton WI, Grey South Four members of the Ayton Branch were hon- oured for their years of involvement with the Women's Institute. Mabel Seim and Florence Kreller received 60 Year Pins and Gertie Schinkel a 40 Year Pin. Violet Fischer received her Past President Pin for the many years she contributed to the office. Nobleton WI, York Centre Members of the Nobleton WI were proud reâ€" cipients of a plaque from the York Region District School Board applauding thegroup for their contribution to public education. The Branch has held several Garage and Bake Sales with the proceeds purchasing trees for the Naturalization Project at the Senior Public School. Members have also contributed to playground equipment and music programs. A number of members were recognized for their years of service: Elizabeth Douglas and Dorothy Lane - 25 years; Mary Anne Merritt and Viola Douglas - 40 years: Jean Boynton and Isabelle Forester - 50 years; Ruth Rose. Fenelon Falls WI, Victoria East Eight of the nine Branches in Victoria East District participated in a "Fun Day" hosted by the Fenelon Falls WI. While each of the nine Branches < Fenelon falls, Blythe, Bury's Green, Burnt River, Lakeview, Minden, Norland. Pleasant Valley and Powles Corners - have a different focus. they areall busy. Some ofthe' activities. include: holding a euchre every tw weeks to fund raise; making and selling a quilt each year; catering at auction sales; donating to secondary school awards; supporting famv ily services; donating to Christmas food hampers; organizing community bazaars, plant sales and pancake breakfasts; and, pro» viding birthday parties for residents in seniors' homes. Cochrane-Terniskaming Area The Quilt Square Competition organized by this Area was pleased to have had 19 entries, some pieced and some appliqued. There were even several entries from the United States, some from as far as Texas. The winners of the Competition are Irene Blackburn from Hunta, Glenda Reynolds from Cambridge and Ruth Bernache from Cobalt. A quilt and pillows will be made from these squares and raffled. Beachhurg WI, Realm In June, the Beachburg WI sponsored the last VEP Program (“Very Effective People") in Ren- frew County offered to Grade 6 students. This Branch has sponsored the students since the inception of the Program. Due to cutbacks it will not be offered again.
