Tottenhom WI, Simcoe South This Branch has organized a Health Fair in Tottenham, getting several local groups “working together for a safe and healthy community." The mayor will be declaring the week of April 14th “Safe and Healthy Community Week" in the area. Schools will be participating with class programs. The Scouting group is undertaking a town clean- up. The police are holding a bicycle safety rodeo. And the Lions Club are organizing a “Walk for Health.†It is hoped that other groups will get involved with ideas as well. This Branch has a few WI logos for sale at two for $10. Cami-0n WI, Wellington North In keeping with the “Safe and Healthy Communities" theme, the Carry-On WI hosted a Safe Food Handlers Forum. About 60 people. representing Women‘s Institutes. service organizations. church groups and pri« vate caterers. attended. Representatives of the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Health Unit conducted the fomm. As a centennial project this group distributed a WI newsletter to all households in Palmerston and the surâ€" rounding rural area. The information sheet was designed to better acquaint the commu- nity with the Women’s Institute: it contained information about their history. structure and accomplishments, as well as activities and accomplishments of the Carry-0n Branch. It is hoped that this will increase public aware- ness of the WI and gain new members. Forester's Falls WI, Rentrew North Forester’s Falls Women’s Institute launched a new Look ’N Cook recipe book featuring over 400 original dishes. This is the second edition of this book, originally printed in 1977. It was Such a good seller the ï¬rst time around that members decided to print the original 250 recipes and add 161 new contributions. This book is a tribute to the 100th anniver- sary of the WI and to former member Suzanne Lambie who spearheaded the origi- nal [oak ‘N Cook. Suzanne lost her battle with cancer last fall. Perth and Huron WI: Last October and November. Women’s Inv stitutes from Perth and Huron joined together to hold workshops featuring low fat cooking and sweatshirt dressup. Attendance at these workshops was 85 and 83 respectively. with several nonâ€"members participating. 7719 North Shore Women’s institute received the Otonabea Township Community Spirit Award. This award is presented to a group or individual whose unselï¬sh actions contribute to the betterment at Otonabee Township. but without thought or desire of recognition. They must have mntn'buted greatly to the welfare and enjoyment at the community and its residents. This Branch landscaped and continues to maintain a new park established in the village of Keene, planting over 1000 perennials.
