Navan resident Henrietta Lancaster indicated in her will that she wanted the community to benefit from the assets that she and her husband had accumulated in their life. Although she was not a Women‘s Institute member herself. the Navan WI was one of six locai groups and churches to receive nearly $44,000 each. 50, when the Cumberland Township Fire Department needed rescue equipment for their new fire truck. the Navan WI donated $12,800; the local Lions Club. also beneficiaries of the Lancas- ter’s estate, donated a similar amount. Hilda Edwards presented the cheque to Fire Chief Gordon Mills at their annual Christmasdinner, Deputy Chief. Randy Foster. was so impressed with the Women‘s Institute organization. its motto and all it stands for. that he decided to write a song in honour of the WI group. The members oi the Navan Women's Institute are proud of the new fire tmck. which bears the Lions Club logo on one door and the WI crest on the other. Coordinating one at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is that much more challenging and exciting.
