.The Maples WI, Duflerin South Recently, The Maples Women's Institute Community Hall was sold to be renovated into a single-family dwelling. The Hall was purchased by the Branch in 1919 and overthe years underwent many changes: a basement was dug out, the ceiling was lowered. a kitchen was added, washrooms were built and the wood stove was replaced. Members. past members. theirfamilies and others in the community. gathered in the Hall one last time to celebrate all the good times they had there. Cherry Valley WI, Prince Edward An Annual Ham Supper followed by euchre is a good fund raiser for this Branch. Also, during the tourist months of July. Au- gust and September. numerous bake and craft sales generate proceeds for this group. Some of the money is used to purchase poinsettias forlocal shut-ins at Christmas. Some of these occasions provide the opportunity to display their Tweedsmuuir Books. scrapbooks and photo albums. Princeton-Woodbury WI, Brant South After many hours of hard work. the efforts ‘ this Branch came to fruition. They had turned an unsightly comer lot on the main street of Princeton into a beautiful park space. They were granted permission from the local Council to maintain the property. They brought in loads of stone. built up the flower beds, planted trees and shrubs and installed a park bench. Networking in Simcoe Area imcoe Area WI participated in the March Conference of the Junior Farmers Asso- ciation of Ontario (JFAO). Simcoe Area President, Barbara Ann Cook. had the privi- lege of judging twenty-two scrapbooks showing the year in review for each JFAO group. She said itwasadifï¬cult decision, and she certainly became more aware of what these young people do: undertake commu» nil)’ Work; support charities: help with agriculture projects in schoools; and. partici» pate in fairs. leadership camps. cultural activities. sports and exchange visits. In addition to helping others. the Project is a memo» rial to one of our former members. Before her death last November, Maidie Graves was a dedicated WI member who had held the ofï¬ces of Branch President, Secretary-Treasurer and PRO. A memorial fund has been established in her name to generate funds to purchase assistive devices to be available to anyone in die commu- nity to borrow on a short-term basis. The fund generated enough money to purchase a commode and a walker. now in use by some of the area‘s sen- iors. In May. a bath safety rat] was also purchased. While researching the pro- ject. members learned about the needs of peeple who have trouble getting about. the agencies in the area who assist with this sort of disability and the maintenance of the equipment.
