Cross Country Calendar Hereward Wl, Dufferin South To commemorate Heritage Month. the Hereward Branch held a Tweedsmuir Tea. About sixty people from the community attended and enjoyed a sociable afternoon. Lennox-Addington When Adolphustown Provincial Park was closed at the end of the 1992 season. local residents were concerned about the fate of Allison House located on the Park property. The House. built in I784. served as a reposi- tory for local artifacts and United Empire Loyalist histories. Last year, UEL members and local residents arranged to operate the home as a Cultural Centre. Volunteers painted. repaired and turned one room into a Tea Room. Kathy Staples. the Tweedsmuir Curator for Adolphustown WI. was hired along \vithtwo students to stafftheTea Room four afternoons a week. Solina Wl, Durham West This Branch held its annual Spring Casse- role Luncheon in March at the Solina Hall. A near capacity crowd enjoyed the bountiful assortment of casseroles and mouth-watering desserts. Margaret Ford, President of the group, drew fifteen names to give away the table centrepieces. The singing and guitar accompaniment of “Just Plain Folks" - Meredith Cutting and Ron Innes. two Toronto Police Officers - brought ‘sunshine and humour‘ to the gathering. A special thank you to Dorothy Snowden and her assistants who were on kitchen duty. Community Wl, Northumberland East This Branch reviewed its 1993 activities: a party for the residents of the Carewell Nurs- ing Home In Brighton. including Woman and Man of the Year Awards. skits, dances and singâ€"songs: a garage sale to help meet their pledge to the Trenton Memorial Hospital; Victorian Teas held at Proctor House Museum; and. the manning of a booth at the local Applefest last fall with donations of baked goods. jams. herbs and dried flowers. Ice Lake Wl, Manitoulin West. The members ofthis Branch gave theirtime and energy to make a quilt. The quilt was mft'led at the annual Ice Lake Picnic and the money earned was donated to the FWIO Headquarters Fund. Grasshill Wl, Victoria West Marjorie Rea’s “Country Bride Quilt" won her Grand Champion at the Lindsay Exhibi- tion. The Grasshill Women's Institute member was also awarded a blue ribbon at the Victoria County Agriculture Museum. Barclay Wl, Kenora Members of the Barclay Branch donated $500 to the Dryden Extended Care Organi- mtion. They raised the money through the sale of perogies and a bake sale. The Branch also donated to a food hamper for a needy family in the District. Balsam Hill WI, South Renfrew Laughter and applause rang through the gym at Admaston Township Public School as a “full house" of township residents en« joyed the variety of skits. recitations. vocal solos. step-dancing, and choral numbers preâ€" sented during the “Old»Fashioned Chris Concert." The admission charge - cash orc â€" was donated to the local Snowsuit Fund or Food Bank.
