Wmeludea For Your Information Barbecue Syndrome Barbecue syndrome is the common name for a type of food poisoning caused by certain coliâ€" form bacteria known as veratoxigenic E. coli or VTEC. These bacteria cause illness by produc- ing a toxin (poison) that can break down the lining of the intestines and damage the kidneys. People who develop this syndrome frequently report that they ate ground beef prior to their illne35.
