Cross Country Calendar Englehart WI Audrey Aldred. a member of the Eagle- hart Women's Institute, was honoured for her participation in “Country Quilt Fest ‘94." She received a pin and letter from the Ontario Agricultural Museum. where her wall hanging is on display. Coldsprings WI This Branch has a unique way of raising funds for the FWIO headquarters. At each meeting one of the members donates a surprise gift. At a cost ofSO cents. the other members try to guess what the gift is from a list of nine or ten items. The idea origiâ€" nated from the Golden Lake WI. Woolwich Ever Faithful Wl To commemorate Earth Week, this Branch planted an emerald maple tree in the Sandy Hills Baptist Cemetery in Woolf wich Township. Sunshine WI Members ofthe Sunshine Branch in Fournier donated $1000 to the MaxviIIe Manor Building Fund to help with renovations and addi- tions to the facility. Several members took part in the Manor‘s fund-raising campaign. and once a year they organize a program and lunch for the residents. Each fall this Branch also serves meals at the Riceville and Vankleek Hill Fall Fairs. Bealton WI Each year since I947. this Branch has sponsored a public speaking contest. This year‘s wine ners are three Grade 6 pupils from Boston Public School: Stephen Chichel. First Prize. for his speech on Alexander Graham Bell; Chris- tal Anderson, Second Prize, for her speech on Kurt Browning; and. Jeffrey Smith, Third Prize, for his speech on ‘The Sasquatch.’ 14 Home a Country. Winter '93 Waterloo North WI This District presented the Helena Feasby Memorial Award to Maureen Wright who is attending Conestoga Colâ€" lege. The Waterloo North District Memorial Award winner was Joanne Herâ€" rle who is attending Wilfred Laurier University. Mary Janes (right). 5 Warwick Women‘s institute member, pre- sented a cap y at herbnok - entitled Joseph Russell Little; Saddlebag Preacher - to Aileen Dalziel (left), Warwick Central School Principal. The Ontario Heritage Foundation commemorated Joseph Little for his work as a pioneer Methodist lay preacher in Lambtan County by erecting an historical plaque. Members of the Warwick WI were on the research committee for the erection o! the plaque. and also served lunch the clay of the unveiling. Wellington Centre District WI It was this District's turn to organize the annual rally for Women‘s Institute memâ€" bers and guests from Wellington South, Centre and North. The ï¬rst stop for the 138 travellers was at Crown Hill. the swirling point of a Mystery Tour on route to Elma vale. The Pine Ridge and Waverly Branches served a bag lunch in Wyevale Park. Then. they were off to the Historical Naval and Military Establishment on Georgian Bay. And after attending a comâ€" edy theatre show. the Simcoe District WI served a salad plate supper at the United Church in Stayner. Norfolk North District WI For the past two years. this District has sponsored a ‘Bingo Night‘ for the residents of Norview Lodge in Simcoe. Members donate all prizes. Lois Buckborough is called the numbers. South River WI Members of this Branch plante, a tree on the grounds of the Muâ€" nicipal Building in South River. The ceremony was in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Women's Institute. Fanny Furâ€" long. the mcmber of longest duration, assisted in the planting ofthe tree. Wellman’s WI A member of this Branch, Hazel Akins. presented three dozen cloth diapers to the Stirling Community Cupboard. Cathcart WI The Women‘s Institute Hall overflowed with people who came to enjoy the barbequed chicken dinner prepared by this Branch. A great community gathering took place and enough money was raised for upkeep of the Hall.
