(416)263-2066 Meet Your Regional VP’s Northern: Irene and her husband Bob live in the Village of Kakabelca Falls - the beautiful “Niagara of the North." twenty miles west of Thunder Bay. They have two sons - David in Owen Sound and Murray irt Winnipeg. Irene has been a Women's Institute member for nearly thirty years. She has held all of the executive offices at the Branch level, as well as most convenorships. At the District level. Irene has sewed as Secretary-Treasurer and District Director. Presently, Irene is enjoying her second year as FWIO Board Director for the Thunder Bay District. Irene commented that “it’s a most rewarding and educational experience." And as Regional Viceâ€"President for the North, she is “looking forward to even greater knowledge of how the Women‘s Institute functions at the Executive level.” Irene has been employed as an office worker for many years. At present. she is with a building contractor on a part-time basis. In addition to looking after her husband‘s electrical contracting busi- ness. she is a freelance bookkeeper. And Irene is also Treasurer of the local Historical Society. Needless to say.” Irene remarked. “I don't have much spare time. But when time allows. Ienjoy reading. knitting and other crafts." Irene quotes the following motto used by 21 W1 Branch that she feels is worth repeating:"Yaur WI is like a bank. the more you put into it, the more interest you have." Southern: n the spring of 1954, Marilyn married Brant County farmer Thomas J. Sharp. Two years later. they purchased a dairy farm in North Duntfiies Township in Waterloo County. In 1965, they founded the Toshmar Bus Lines to service the rural schools in North Dumfries. They sold their dairy farm in 1971; and by 1974 they were nmning fourteen buses. After turning the management of the bus company over to their son Dennis in 1989, they retired to Cambridge. “I joined the Laura Rose WI in 1957.” commented Marilyn. “I served on many committees over the years and was President from 1969 to 197 l Inaddition. she was a4-H leader and Sunday school teacher for many years. Marilyn has attended numerous Women's Institute conferences, including the ACWW conventions in Killamey, Ireland. in 1986, Kansas City. Missouri in 1989. and atT‘he Hague in the Netherlands in 1992. Presently. She is a FWIO Board Director for Subdivision 10, Vice-President of the Waterloo South District WI. and sits on the Board of Managers at the St. Andrew‘s (Gait) Presbyterian Church. At the FWIO annual meeting in November, Marilyn was elected as the FWIO Southern Regional Vice-President. Marilyn and Thomas have three children - Ken, Dennis and Dorothy - and five granddaughters.
