Wellington North District WI In early June this District participated in an Environmental Fair at the Harriston- Minto Complex. The PRO’s from the District displayed many ways in which to promote the three R’s - reduce. reuse and recycle. They illustrated ways to reduce the purchasing of canned goods and other items with excessive packaging and to recycle scrap material and yarn into quilts, teddy bears, mats and other crafts. A Tweedsmuir Tea was also held by this District in June at the Damascus Community Hall. After viewing several Tweedsmuir Books the gathering enjoyed a short program followed by cake and tea. Moyle WI Linda Trimble. Manager of the Recrea- tion and Occupational Therapy Unit at the Willett Hospital in Paris, spoke to this Branch in June. She gave a most interest- 'ng talk on the care and treatment of the .atients. She explained that wheelchair patients have established a committee to discuss their own personal needs. And through the efforts of the staff and volunâ€" teer helpers. they have become involved in the day-to-day activities of the unit. Norfolk North District WI Members representing all five Branches in this District celebrated WI month in June by holding a bingo for the residents of Norview Lodge. About sixty Norview residents enjoyed several games of bingo and the prizes donated by WI members. The evening ended with a social time of lemonade and homemade cookies. Haldimand East District WI The Tweedsmuir History Curator for Haldimand East District reports the folâ€" lowing news for 1992: Mrs. Fred Topp of Dunnville was voted “Farm Woman of the Year" by the Haldimand Federation of Agriculture; the Canboro W] has helped compiling a history of Canborough‘. "d, the Inman Road WI has helped with a history of Dunnville. Joyceville WI Recent happenings from this Branch inâ€" cluded the preparation and serving of dinner to the blind at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Kingston. A picnic and tree planting at the Woodburn Community Centre was also on their agenda. Queen Elizabeth WI This Branch planted a tree»iine of fifty trees along the northem boundary oftheir local cemetery known as Maple Ridge. The two rows of trees planted will be maintained by the members until they become established. Cross Country Calendar Mlndemoya WI Annually, this Branch reviews its past year‘s activities. Their contributions to theircommunity are numerous, including monetary donations to the Cancer Society, the Library Board. the Comâ€" munity Help Centre. the elementary school and the Providence Bay Fair. Sponsorship of 4â€"H clubs, assistance to victims offire, and the success of the local “Meals on Wheels" program can also be attributed to the Mindemoya WI. Perth Centre District WI Members from this District attended a special church service held at the Zion United Church in Rostock. They were shown a video on leprosy in India fol- lowed by guest speaker Grace McGregor of New Hamburg. Mrs. McGregor repre~ sentedMESl-I‘Maximizing Employment to Serve the Handicapped. MESH is a non-profit organization dedicated to im- proving the economic and social status of handicapped people, like leprosy victims. Her sister has been in India since 1956 helping handicapped individuals support themselves.
