The Belâ€"Mar bowling alley was erected at Blairton on the north side of No.7 Highway, by a Mr. Jones. At Twin Lakes, a Hotel Was started and completed in 1961. By a Mr. William Colby. Consisting of 1h units and built of cement construction. First paving was done on road running north from Havelocx to Round Lake, later to meet the Laswade road thence to join Highway 504. MARGHâ€" New addition to Havelock United Church, costing $27,000.00. PEB.- 01d Prenaveau School being demolished. One of the first Public Behools built in Belmont township. A new brick school and township landmark closed as a school in 1905. One of the pupils was John A. Sexsmith recieved his early education at this school, later was a Member of Parliament for many years, in the Riding of East Peterborough. Mr. afoe being clerk for Belmont and Methuen Townships for over fifty years. OCT.- Mr. Daniel Ellis, a resident of Belmont Township, won a $60,000.00 Sweepstake. He was employed for the past nineteen years as a mill operator at the Ontario Rock Quarry. NOV.â€" The Community Ice Arena started its first job, pertaining to artificial ice. Donations from two mining companies in the area of $2,000.00 each were donated to the Artificial Ice Committee. DEC.â€" First coin wash opened in Belmont Township on the east side of Havelock. JULY 1â€" A very large crowd of people turned out to celebrate Canada's 100 Birthday. A Centennial Parade took place in Havelock. Marten Manufacturing Corporation moved into Belmont Township from his former business in Havelook. SEPT.- Kenneth Petherick started a Marine and Sports Business % mile north of Havelock in Belmont Township.
