, 59th ANNIVERSARY The fiftieth anniversary Was celebrated in Havelock Legion Hall in November 1965, with tiree Charter Members present. Representatives from Trent River, Havelock, Norwood, Westwood. Warsaw, Keene, Hall's Glen. Nephton. South Smith, Selwyn, Buckhorn and Chandos branches, former members and past presidents were welcomed by president Mrs. Horace King. Tables were decorated with Institute colours, blue and gold. A large Anniversary cake lettered "50th ANNIVERSARY BELMONT WOMEN'S INSEITUTE" was flanked by large golden candles. Large pots of "Mums" added to tne festive appearance. Reeve Walter Van Steenburgh spoke briefly. Soliest Mrs. John Beatty sang “ A Chain of Golden Memories" and “This is the 50th Anniversary.“ Mrs. Donald lehirst read the history of the Institute. One minute of silence was observed in memory of deceased members. District President Mrs. Howard Hamilton, brought congratulations. During the 50 years, two members from Belmont have served as District President - MrS. J.d. Sexsmith and Mrs. William Harris. Corsages were presented to three charter members - Mrs. Hazel Hartin, Mrs. William Anderson, and Mrs. John Reynolds and 16 past presidents who were present. With Mrs. Hilliam Anderson at the piano and Mrs. William Smith with her harmonica, several selections were played and favourite hyms sang.
