I? "5" History of Park Head continued. In 1959 Canada's first rural F0 School was h home on Lot 1, Con. 4 Anabel which had ascently been gigatgdtgg figrm & Mrs. A. B. Samells, and loaned by them for the occasion. It was I held as a residential school under the capable leadership of Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Harman. The idea spread across Ontario and into other provinces and now each winter hundreds of these schools are held across Canada creating in our youth a zest for rural living and helping them to live fuller, richer and happier lives. The southern part of this community was given Rural Tele hone Service from Allenford in 1910 and the village and northern partpfrom Hepworth in 1911. The Hydro Line was built up the Count Line from the south as far north as Park Head in 1937 and served the people in this section of Amabel. This was a great boon to the rural people. On Feb. 12, 1914 the Women's Institute was instrumental in having a Public Library started. Co-operative shipping of livestock started in this area early in 1921 when scales Were purchased and shipping yards built near the station. Before a regular shipper was appointed, Richard Sylvester and L. Schnurr acted in that capacity. The first regular shipper was Sidney Smith followed by Firman Philp, T. B. Rourke and Percy Doubt who is the present shipper. On March 2nd 1953 the C.N.R. closed the stock yards and the residents purchased land and built new stock yards about one quarter of a mile north of Park Head on High- way 6 and commenced shipping April 20th, 1953. The shipping in recent years is all done by truck, which is a vast improvement on driving the cattle to Owen Sound. Bruce Old Boys Re-union was celebrated at Park Head on July 29th 1948 when two hundred citizens of Park Head Welcomed hack almOSt four hundred old boys and girls of the community with their families. They were Welcomed to the Park enterance by a comuittee of four native-born residents. A tractor drawing two hay racks filled with old boys and girls toured the grounds. A program of Sports was carrâ€" ied out which included a league ball game between Allenford and Park- Head. There was a visit to the church and tour of the school where the first teacher Mr. W. D. Hannah taught when the building was opened in 1893. Over thirty pupils of the sixty who attended grweted their old teacher and answered the roll call. They expressed their delight at being able to greet him. Several group pictures were on display of different generations, as well as views of store, sawmill, station etc. A bountiful supper “LS served, cafeteria style,by the members of the Jomen's Institute and a concert enjoyed in the church shed. Throughout the day the Liltie Band of Owen Sound and Park Head provided music. Former residents of Park Head taking part in the program were Mr. Ben Brookbanh of Van- couver, the first blacksmith in this COmmunity, also Hrs. heetrice (Pringle) Daley of Palmerston.
