OFFICERS OF WEST EKUCd DISTRICT AH\ /7Lw Mrs. Donald McTavish of Port Elgin was born near Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1842. Her maiden name was Janet Stewart Muir . She came to Canada with her mother and brothers in 1855 and eventually became a teacher in B ruce Township, holding that position for three years. In 1860, she was married, and they lived on a farm at N orth Bruce for forty-four years, w here they raised a family of three sons and eight daughters. Mrs. McTavish was instrumental in the organization of the Port Elgin branch of Women's Institute in November 1697 and was its First president. She travelled over the greater part of Ontario, organizing and speaking at Branches. In 1906, in company with Hon. E.C, Drury and Home Economists, she toured Manitoulin and St. Joseph's Islands in the interest of the Farmer‘s and Women‘s Institutes. In 1910, she presided at the convention of Women‘s Instiâ€" tutes held in Toronto.
